History
Thomas Rosato, an investor, mountaineer, and adventurer, first travelled to the Dominican Republic in 2007. In 2010, he started helping a colegio in Sabonetta where he met many of the students. He was surprised to learn that many of the students who excelled at the colegio and dreamed of going to the university were not planning on doing so simply because they lacked the financial resources to do so. Thomas felt that he needed to help because he believed that young people are the future of a society and the best way for a country to be prosperous is to invest in their education.
Thomas started EMF in 2013 with 5 students at the UTESA Puerto Plata university. Thomas started the project with the collaboration of the DREAM Project who were, and continue to be, a great help. Since then, EMF has expanded to 5 universities in the Dominican Republic. Approximately 5 to 10 new scholarships are awarded each year.
Over the last 10 years EMF has grown and become a great success. Thomas Rosato and his hard working and dedicated local team believe more than ever that working together, we can help the youth of the Dominican Republic achieve their academic and life goals and make their dreams come true.
Currently we have 28 scholarship recipients at different universities, studying various careers. In addition, we have 25 graduates with a bachelor’s degree and one with a master’s degree. Approximately 70% of our graduates have graduated with honors and the majority of them have good jobs in their careers of interest.
Vision
We believe that there are young people in the Dominican Republic with great potential who want to study and work hard so they can improve not only their own lives, but those of their families, their communities and their country. We also know that many of these young students lack the financial resources to pursue a university education.
Mission
Our mission is to provide outstanding young students with the opportunity to earn a scholarship to attend the university, and to provide them with the advice and support that they need to succeed, not only at the university, but in life. To help our students learn these life skills, we offer guidance, mentorship, workshops, excursions, and other extracurricular activities.
Our greatest strength
EMF is a family. When you are a member of EMF, you are never alone. All of our current students, our graduates, and our local team believe in helping and supporting each other. There will always be advice, assistance, guidance, and support available to you. We all strongly believe that working together, we can not only achieve great things academically, but also develop essential life skills, build lifelong friendships, and enjoy our journey to success together.

The scholarship covers:
- 75% of the cost of registration and tuition at the university
- 75% of transportation costs
- A book allowance of up to 2,000 pesos per semester
